Date Difference Calculator
Find the exact time between two dates in calendar years, months, days, total days, and weeks.
How this date difference calculator works
This calculator compares two calendar dates and reports the elapsed time in ordinary date language. It is useful for planning deadlines, checking time between events, measuring project durations, or counting days between personal milestones.
Calendar difference vs total days
Calendar difference answers the question in years, months, and days. Because months have different lengths, this result depends on the actual start and end dates.
Total days counts the number of 24-hour calendar-day steps between the two dates. This is often the clearest value for schedules, timelines, and date-based comparisons.
Including or excluding the end date
By default, the calculator excludes the end date from the total day count. With this setting, two identical dates have a difference of 0 days because no full day has passed between them.
If you check Include end date in total days, the calculator counts both the start date and the end date. With this option turned on, two identical dates count as 1 day.
The checkbox only changes the total days and weeks-and-days results; the calendar years, months, and days result stays the same.
Example
From January 15, 2026 to March 20, 2026, the calendar difference is 2 months and 5 days. The total difference is 64 days, or 9 weeks and 1 day.
Notes
- The start date must be before or the same as the end date.
- The total day count excludes the end date.
- Leap years and different month lengths are handled by the browser calendar date system.
